America’s Next Top Pro Model: Day 2 Photos

The High Cascade Snowboard Camp lane saw the last three on-hill events of America’s Next Top Pro Model. The morning started off with Spin to Win. A 30-foot HCSC popper lay before the field of competitors and they took to it at around eleven in the morning to the pleasure of campers, industry heads and filmers alike. With three frontside or Cab attempts and three backside or switch backside tries, the riders were given six go’s at landing their most rotated maneuver. Kyle Clancy, Keegan Valaika, Bryan Fox, Derek Dennison, Chris Grenier, MFM, Lauri Heiskari, Iikka Backstrom, Lane Knaack, Aaron Biittner, Austin Smith, Joe Sexton, Heikki Sorsa and the rest of the field spent the morning spinning but in the end, it was Clancy who took the win with two nines, a grand total of 1,800 degrees of victory.

Congratulations to Lauri Heiskari for being the champion of the America’s Last Top Pro Model event. Rider: Lauri Heiskari Photo: Huggy
Following the Spin to Win, the Top Pro Modelers headed over to the Superpipe and tried their hand at boosting the largest pipe air of the day. Lane came on strong, launching overhead airs in the 22-foot pipe but three other riders would out-amp Knaack. Kyle Clancy, Bryan Fox, and Austin Smith took part in a three-way battle of airtime, sending it higher and higher with every drop. In the end, Clancy took his second win of the day with an overhead-and-a-half air that got the crowd on their feet, with Austin snagging second and Fox taking third. In an event with no “pipe kids,” it was more than impressive to see these dudes getting after it on transition.

Controversy has erupted at the 2011 ANTPM as many riders have protested the victory of Keegan Valaika in the High Ollie event. Apparently there is a dispute as to whether or not he has a pro model. Yet there is no disputing that Keegan has an insane backside 7! Rider: Keegan Valaika Photo: E-Stone
And now, on to the grand finale, and possibly, the one event of ANTPM that can truly boast ballsy bragging rights: The Chinese Downhill. Fifteen riders stood atop the HCSC lane, ready to point it to the finish. From the mini pipe straight-line, the riders then banked a hard left turn at terminal velocity and cut hard into the Superpipe to the coveted yellow tape. As Bridges lobbed a snowball and it touched the ground, all bets were off. Spraying, pushing, jacket pulling and other dirty tactics were more than encouraged. I personally witnessed Aaron Biittner holding MFM by the jacket at one point. Possibly the ballsiest move of the entire day. A mess of pro snowboarders came careening down the hill, around the corner, and crossed the finish in a tangled mess of Gore-Tex® and p-tex. Wanna know who won? It was the man in black himself, Bryan Fox. Following Fox was his ol’ pal Austin Smith, and Iikka Backstrom in third, who was complaining about cheating. We quickly informed Iikka that this isn’t Finland. He was in America, and cheating is a way of life on the road to victory in this great nation.

Top 5 reasons given by E-Stone why he isn’t shooting a photo of Bryan Fox in this picture: a. “I ran out of film in my bag.” b. “I wasn’t feeling the angle with that trick.” c. “It was still warm ups.” d. “I saw the Matador cube and wanted to have a snack attack.” e. “I was just enjoying life and was taking it all in.” f. “My camera bag got stuck on the chairlift!” Rider: Bryan Fox Photo: Aaron Dodds
America’s Next Top Pro Model is not done yet. Tomorrow night is the Charity Auction, in which every pro snowboarder puts their board up for sale to the campers and all proceeds go to the overall winner’s charity of choice. Stay tuned to snowboardermag.com for the final tally.

It has been verified that Lane Knaack did in fact make his and Clancy’s pro models himself. Rider: Lane Knaack Photo: Huggy

If you don’t like this photo of Chris Bradshaw you must be trippin’. Seriously. Speaking of tripping have you seen the i-doser videos yet? Rider: Chris Bradshaw Photo: E-Stone

Iikka Backstrom in his first Spin To Win event. Ikka has been busy lately with his new blog site which can be found at www.c:enter:###:.com. Rider: Ikka Backstrom Photo: E-Stone

It has recently come to SNOWBOARDER’s attention that the rider in this photo’s last name has caused our website to be inaccessible to some readers due to parental internet blockers. Therefore we will be calling him Joe Procreate-ton from now on. Rider: Joe Procreate-ton Photo: E-Stone

Kyle Clancy landed one more 900 than Joe Coitus-ton to win the spin to win event. We guess you could say that Kyle won by a nose. “Winning By A Nose” would have been an amazing marketing push for Killer Loop, which was Kyle’s first board sponsor. Rider: Kyle Clancy Photo: Ryan Hughes

Japanese photographer Kazu got the divine wind knocked out of him when he scorpioned going up the wall of the pipe while forerunning the Biggest Air event. Rider: Kazu Photo: Ryan Hughes

Have you heard the latest Mel Gibson tapes to be released online? He has run out of ethnicities to be prejudiced against so he has started voicing his prejudicial views against goofy-footers. Obviously Mel has never watched Chris Bradshaw ride. Rider: Chris Bradshaw Photo: Aaron Dodds

Lauri Heiskari should get sponsored by Lowry’s Seasoning Salt. That way, every time his name is mentioned, he gets paid. On that note, Mel Gibson should get sponsored by the Mel’s Aryan Waffle House. It’s all relative. Rider: Lauri Heiskari Photo: Huggy

Bryan Fox finished on the podium in the Highest Air event. He was literally that excited. We had to mop it up after he left. He finished all over it. Rider: Bryan Fox Photo: Laura Austin

Austin Smith is winning a lot these days. Aside from getting second place in the pipe today, he also managed to win a 1984 Pontiac Sunfire in a strip club the other night. It came with a free spare tire and a child seat. Rider: Austin Smith Photo: Huggy

If Kyle Florig Clancy’s initials are KFC, then this 14-foot air is the equivalent of the double down. Rider: Kyle Clancy Photo: Laura Austin

Kyle Clancy launches one with Mt. Jefferson in the background. Mt. Jefferson was named after famed president and closet racist Thomas Jefferson. I bet he would like hanging out with Mel Gibson. Rider: Kyle Clancy Photo: E-Stone

Okay, okay. We know Kyle Clancy killed it, but whoever put this photo gallery today is kinda over-doing it, don’t you think? Still, this is pretty rad, but our Seniors need to chill out on taking rad photos. Rider: Kyle Clancy Photo: Huggy

This is the last photo ever taken of Aaron Biittner (pictured in orange). Biittner was found in a ravine later in the afternoon after holding MFM back from his coveted Chinese Downhill title. Now people pay tribute to Biittner by not making a noise as they drive by Silent Rock on Highway 26. Rider: everyone Photo: Laura Austin

China is over-populated, which is coincidental considering how many riders were packed onto the Chinese Downhill course. Rider: the field Photo: Huggy

The last leg of the Chinese Downhill found the Fox in the lead with the hounds chasing. To be noted is Keegan Valaika in the top right corner. Photo: Aaron Dodds

Angle two of the chicane. Speaking of chicane’s Kevin Jones has a pro model on Compatriot Snowboards now. Photo: Huggy

We heard this kid ask Aaron Dodds if there were any chance of him getting a photo on our website, so Burtner grabbed him and snapped this shot. That kid’s name is Jesse Burtner. Photo: Aaron Dodds
