When it comes to the French, there’s no shortage of stereotypes to throw around: They don’t wash, they hate Americans, are arrogant, live on cheese and red wine, and smell of garlic. Meanwhile, French snowboarders are too busy smoking weed and acting like gangsters to ever leave their own backyard and step up to the international plate. Well, Sylvain Bourbousson farts in the general direction of your stereotypes. He smells great, smiles all day long, doesn’t sulk if you take his cheese away, and loves America. As for stepping up, check out Absinthe’s Neverland for this small Frenchman’s big tricks.

Your 2004 video part in Psykopit’s Fun was revealing. What’s the best thing about hitting a kicker naked?
Some parts of my body rarely see the sunlight. It seemed like a good way to introduce them to our nice sun.
What is your favorite U.S. state to ride in?
Cali, Oregon, Colorado, NY… It’s always so cool to live the American dream. But my last trip to Utah was incredible; a good crew with Shane Charlebois, Dan Brisse, Bode Merrill, Phil Damianakes, and LJ. Powder every week. Lots of fun. Not too cold. Just missing the Californian beach and waves!

What’s so good about being French?
The cheese, chocolate, boulangeries [bakeries], beautiful girls, mountains, beaches… And free healthcare! Right now, the best thing is the dollar/euro exchange rate when we visit North America.
What’s the worst?
We (or rather, I) suck at foreign languages. Also, our soccer team, which used to be very good with Zidane, is going downhill. We even lost against Austria. What else? We don’t get as much powder as Canada, and a lot of resorts still don’t know how to build a decent park.
Being a romantic Frenchie, what would you say to a girl you like if she just likes you as a friend?
I have a “magnifique” girlfriend right now but, for sure I’d be pissed! I’d try everything to change her mind. Never give up, you know?
