What Does U.S. Team Rider Maddie Mastro Listen to While Snowboarding?

White Noise with Maddie Mastro

Maddie Mastro is a rising rider, not only metaphorically due to the fact that at only seventeen-years-old she has emerged as a mainstay in the competition circuit notching podium finishes in major events like the Grand Prix and US Open. But also literally, every time she drops into the pipe, be it under the lights at X Games Aspen or across the globe in Olympic qualifiers, she sends it high into the stratosphere. Her ability to air high overhead may not be directly related to what's playing in her ears when she's going from frontside to backside wall, but the songs she selects before her runs definitely provide an appropriate airtime soundtrack. As Maddie starts in on an Olympic year, setting her sights on representing the USA in South Korea, check out her current playlist, noting her eclectic taste in tunes, which matches her inclination for a variety of inclined terrain. To put it succinctly, while Maddie is staking her claim within the two walls of the halfpipe, she's hardly relegated to only one genre of sliding down snow; this up-and-coming Mammoth local also has a penchant for park jumps and a natural ability for pointing it down the fall line in the backcountry. So, stay tuned for more from Maddie, as she continues to hit the high notes in the halfpipe and beyond. – Mary Walsh
